Whit Merrifield
Utility Player | Kansas City Royals
In his own words…
On the Field
Whit Merrifield was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the ninth round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. He is known as a super utility player, shown by the fact that in his professional career, Merrifield has played:
239 games in left field
220 games at second base
82 games in centerfield
64 games in right field
18 games at first base
16 games at third base
13 games at shortstop
And thrown one scoreless inning as a pitcher
Off the Field
Merrifield spent six years in the minor leagues before finally getting called up to the Major Leagues. During the adversity he faced through that process, he points to his faith in God saying, “But here's the thing, you've got to keep pushing, because God never puts anything on your plate that you can't handle. “
