On the Field
Turner Ward played in 12 seasons during his Major League Baseball career. He appeared in 626 total games for the Cleveland Indians, Toronto Blue Jays, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Philadelphia Phillies. He had a .251 batting average with 39 HR and 219 RBI, 389 career hits, and 33 stolen bases. Defensively, he recorded a .988 fielding percentage playing at all three outfield positions. He was a member of the 1992 and 1993 World Series champions, the Toronto Blue Jays.
Off the Field
Ward now works in the MLB as a hitting coach. There he has developed a reputation as not only a great coach, but a positive spiritual mentor as well. Brian Hommel, chaplain for the Arizona Diamondbacks has said, “He is like a father figure. He’s a guy who loves Jesus and loves people and looks for opportunities to encourage guys.”
